Defender of Sochi gardeners' rights claims illegal prosecution

Law enforcers have conducted a search of the home of Tatiana Polivanova, an activist, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with a fraud case with land plots of the Sochi National Park. The Polivanova's organization provided legal assistance to dozens of gardeners whose plots were seized by the court within this case.

In September 2021, the Prosecutor's Office (PO) of the Krasnodar Territory announced the discovery of a fraud with land plots of the Sochi National Park. Fraudsters took possession of more than two thousand hectares of the Park territory and planned to cut down a century-old forest for the sake of construction. In connection with this investigation, more than 11,000 land plots belonging to Sochi residents were seized, including the plots granted by authorities to large families. The investigation is demonstrative in nature and does not interfere with the development of the National Park lands, activists have stated.

On November 19, searches were conducted at the home of Tatiana Polivanova, the head of the ROD (Russian Association of Households and Land Users) organization, and her family members in Taganrog in connection with the fraud case with National Park lands. Polivanova was engaged in defending the interests of the victims of illegal seizure of their property in Sochi.

According to Tatiana, searches were also conducted at several advocates, who are handling, at the Supreme Court, the cases on illegal seizure of Sochi residents' property.

Tatiana is sure that the case against her is falsified.

Aksana Fyodorova, one of the victims of the plot seizure, said that she is grateful to Polivanova and her organization. "I bought my land plot with my legal money, which I accumulated in my whole life. My son is disabled, he needs fresh air, the plot of land is legal, but we were deprived of it," the woman has complained.
