Frankfurter Rundschau: situation in Caucasus is a threat to Sochi Olympiad

The German edition Frankfurter Rundschau asserts that in the context of the hard criminal situation today in Northern Caucasus the Kremlin should think over the idea to transfer the Winter Olympiad-2014 somewhere behind the Urals.

The count of victims in Ingushetia and neighbouring republics of Northern Caucasus is on a constant rise. While local experts are moving their guesses about the reasons of the flash of violence, the experts of the edition believe that the federal centre is under a threat of losing complete control over the situation.

"The pro-Kremlin commentators point to terrorist networks of pan-Islamists and western special services. Other observers, less friendly to the Kremlin, accuse corrupted law enforcement bodies of escalating violence. Anyhow, the conflict that kept smouldering for a long time has now flashed in bright flame," the Deutsche Welle quotes the paper's article.

The edition notes that "in Ingushetia, people have to fear for their life even if they work in a guarded ROVD building or move in an armoured President's limousine." The government power is under threat to lose control over the situation, especially during night hours.

Besides, as the Frankfurter Rundschau emphasizes, Nazran is at the same latitude with Sochi, only some 400 km away from the future Olympic capital, as reported by the "Gazeta.Ru".
