Georgian Defense Ministry confirms information that 4 Georgian peacekeepers were injured in Iraq
The Georgian Ministry of Defense confirms that four Georgian peacekeepers were injured while conducting mine clearing operations in the Northern Iraqi city of Tikrit on August 21.
All the four soldiers were hospitalized and are now undergoing medical treatment. According to the words of Spokesperson for the Georgian Defense Ministry Nino Sturua, one of the Georgian soldiers has been severely injured and will probably be hospitalized to the United States for further treatment.
Georgia dispatched its platoon-sized peacekeeping unite to Iraq on August 3. The unit was deployed in Saddam Hussein's hometown Tikrit.
