Haber: progress observed in Georgian-South-Ossetian negotiations

Ambassador Hansjorg Haber, head of the Mission of Observers of the European Union (MOEU), has stated that the fifth meeting on incident prevention, held under the mechanism designed in the course of Geneva negotiations on September 24 in Ergneti village, Gori District, in the border of Georgia and South Ossetia, saw some progress.

"I can't say it was a tough meeting. We've reached a small progress: some ideas appeared. The future will show our successes in overcoming the barriers," said Mr Haber.

In particular, the participants of the meeting have agreed to investigate the explosion of a Georgian police car, accomplished, according to the MIA of Georgia, shortly before the start of the meeting, in the morning on September 24, near Dvani village, Karelian District, not far from South Ossetia.

The meeting also discussed safety measures and release by Tskhinvali of Georgian prisoners, as the "News-Georgia" Agency reports.

Meetings within the above mechanism on incident prevention are held with organizational support of the EU Mission of observation in Georgia, with invitation of representatives from the Georgian, Russian and South-Ossetian parties. The next meeting will take place in three weeks, on October 15, in the same place, the Agency adds.
