In Karachai-Circassia, hostel tenants demand better housing conditions

In the capital of Karachai-Circassia, tenants of hostels complain that they are sick and tired to live in anti-sanitary conditions and demand to improve them at least for invalids.

After the visit in February this year of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the hostel in Cherkessk, at No. 3 in Pyatigorsk Highway, was put under repairs; however, as the tenants remark, the results of these repairs leave much to be desired.

"They have repaired only corridors of three floors in one section of the hostel. A repair - no repair, just a name. They've just painted and plastered a little, and left without finishing the work," said Lyubov Bodrova, a hostel tenants.

"All my carpets got rotten from dampness, furniture has collapsed, and there's a water layer on the floor of my kitchen and bathroom all the time. I move in my kitchen by removing bricks and walking over them, as the floor is covered with water. I addressed the housing and communal service - they told me that they were not responsible for that and advised to address the water and drainage service. I addressed there, workers came, looked and said that the housing and communal service was in charge. I suggested paying them, but they refused, saying that it was beyond their competence. I addressed the housing and communal service again; they told me: drive a plug where it leaks," Asiyat Chotchaeva, who lives in the basement of the hostel, said in despair.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the city mayoralty, where officials tried to comment the situation, that tenants of emergency houses often do not want and even hamper repairs of the houses, willing to receive certificates on new apartments.
