Parliament of Belarus starts studying recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia

The Belarusian parliament has set up a working group in the House of Representatives for preparing to consideration of the appeal of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on recognition of the independence of these two breakaway republics; in the near future the issue will be addressed.

"This week, the parliament of Belarus will make a decision on putting the issue of recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on its agenda," Vladimir Makei, head of the administration of the President of Belarus, said on November 4 in Minsk.

According to his version, in deciding whether to recognize the independence or not the Belarusian MPs will rely on the public opinion as "the opinion of Belarus citizens on this issue is not unanimous," as reported by the "Interfax".

The ITAR-TASS adds that it is expected that later this year, on November 17-20, a parliamentary delegation will visit Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia for studying the situation.
