In Armenia, psychological pressure is the most widespread form of violence applied to women; sexual, physical and economic forms of violence are also widespread. This was stated on November 25 by Gene Sargizova, head of the UN programme "Against Gender Violence in South Caucasus".

According to her story, only 15 percent of the women polled in Armenia are ready to evidence about the violence exerted to them.

On November 25, on the occasion of the UN-declared International Day of fighting for eradication of violence against women, Armenia launched a series of actions and events to last for 16 days; they are planned in the capital and all districts of the country.

Maria Dotsenko, an employee of the PR division of the UN representative office in Armenia, has noted that the United Nations support the efforts undertaken by the Armenian government, other organizations and mass media in the sphere of defending women's rights.

She presented the UN statistics saying that every third woman the world is exposed to violence at least once in her life, while every fifth one is a victim of rape or a rape attempt.
