Families of convicts and defendants in airport riot case have to address Kadyrov because of Melikov’s position

The authorities of Dagestan did not respond to requests from relatives of the people convicted and accused in the case on riots at an airport in Makhachkala, so they had to appeal to the leader of Chechnya for help. Analysts believe that Ramzan Kadyrov refused the meeting due to his unwillingness to conflict with Sergey Melikov and to be known as the defender of the pogrom participants.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the relatives of the people accused and convicted in the case on the riots at the airport in Makhachkala intended to ask Ramzan Kadyrov for help, but were unable to get an appointment with him. At the meeting with the Dagestani Ombudsperson, the relatives wrote a letter to Sergey Melikov and threatened to hold protest actions in the event of receiving no response.

A mother of Salik Ramazanov, convicted in the case on the riots at the Makhachkala airport, said that their family had been planning a visit to Ramzan Kadyrov for a long time. According to the woman’s words, the meeting with the Dagestani Ombudsperson Zapir Alkhasov gave the relatives of the people convicted and accused an opportunity to voice their complaints.

Magomed, a father of convicted Rabadan Radjabov, supports the idea of addressing Ramzan Kadyrov for help. “We are not asking to release our children, but we are asking to treat young guys with understanding, and not to judge them as murderers,” Magomed emphasized.

“My son is 19 years old, and he will spend his best years in prison. Before this case, he had not even committed a single offense. Yes, he may have done something stupid, but no one was hurt, he did not maim anyone,” Magomed Radjabov noted.

The relatives of the convicted men came to Chechnya in the hope of achieving a mitigation of the sentences, emphasized Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan. He believes that Ramzan Kadyrov did not want to interfere in the situation, considering it an internal matter of Dagestan.

“He is a serious political figure, so people often address him,” Shamil Khadulaev noted.

Let us remind you that on December 16, the Novokubansky Court sentenced six residents of Dagestan to terms of seven to eight years of imprisonment.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
