Court stops "Electrozink" in Vladikavkaz

The Arbitration Court of North Ossetia has ruled that the "Electrozink" metallurgy factory in Vladikavkaz shall improve its sanitary-protective zone. Until then, according to the verdict of Judge Marina Kopteva, the factory is suspended.

The "Caucasian Knot" wrote a lot earlier that residents of Vladikavkaz protest against the work of the factory because of frequent emissions of hazardous substances.

In the course of judicial debate, the respondent has noted that suspension of the factory will have huge negative social consequences. According to his story, the enterprise employs more than two thousand persons, and, in case of suspension, their families will remain without means of subsistence.

The claimant - representing "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) - offered, in his turn, that the court strikes the balance: on the one hand, over two thousand workers of the factory, and on another hand - over 300,000 residents of Vladikavkaz, suffering, because of regular encroachments on their right to ecological wellbeing, from factory's hazardous emissions.

According to experts, all the persons present in the area receive "a catastrophic doze" of poisonous substances. The heavy metals manufactured by the facility not only "provoke" oncology diseases, but also get into tissue cells causing changes at the genetic level, the "Echo Moskvy" Radio quotes the ecologists.

"If the court stops the factory, hundreds of other enterprises in Russia will start respecting, under a threat of strict sanctions up to stopping, the nature protection legislation," the ITAR-TASS quotes the claimant's representative.

Thus, as the "Newsinfo" reports, having suspended the metallurgical enterprise, the court satisfied the claim of the "Rostekhnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Technical Supervision) branch for North Ossetia.
