New human rights organization to start in Dagestan
As reported today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Svetlana Isaeva, head of the NGO "Mothers of Dagestan for Human Rights", Gyulnara Rustamova, one of the activists of the NGO, has left it aiming to create a new human rights entity.
"We had no problems; Gyulnara just stated one of these days that she wants to create a new human rights organization; and we said goodbye to each other," said Isaeva.
Ms Rustamova confirmed the news: "I, Aisha Selimkhanova and some other persons joined to create a new entity named 'Rights Defence'. Aisha is the chair, and I'm the co-chair. The association is not registered, although we already have the charter. So far, we have sittings in my apartment," she said.
Both Isaeva and Rustamova stated unanimously that the more human rights organizations are in the republic, the better for ordinary citizens.
Lawyer Gazimagomed Khiriev sticks to another opinion: "I don't know about their disputes, but the fact is that dispersion of human rights potentials will bring benefits to nobody. For effective defence of human rights, we need certain resources; we need recognition, a particular address and so on. All this, in my opinion, was in place with the "Mothers of Dagestan", but when the new organization finds its feet - nobody knows," said the lawyer.
