Miners in Georgia start their warning strikes
Today, the united trade unions of Georgia begin miners' warning strikes in Zestafoni and Chiatura, in western Georgia. The trade unions demand increase of wages and longer vacations.
According to the Association of Trade Unions of Georgia, because of recent frequent accidents and industrial traumas, the trade unions and miners have decided to take joint efforts; however, the meetings in Zestafoni and Chiatura with the aim to discuss solutions passed under shadowing and pressure.
The strike committee was set up; and a letter with demands was adopted. They assume a 50-percent increase of wages, paid 35-day vacations, conclusion of termless labour contracts, better labour conditions and the like, as the "Trend" Agency reports.
As noted by "Business Georgia", about 600 employees of the Zestafoni Ferroalloys Factory and the Chiatura Mining and Concentration Combine are ready to go on strike.
