Georgia and Abkhazia hold emergency meeting in Gal

Today, in the city of Gal, an extraordinary meeting is held of the working group on prevention of incidents and reaction mechanisms to them in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone. The United Nations have initiated the meeting.

The meeting is held ahead of the scheduled date of June 22 because of aggravated situation in the Gal District of Abkhazia inhabited mainly by Georgians, where murders and other grave crimes have recently become more frequent, as the "Georgia Today" writes.

The "Trend" agency reports that traditionally delegates of Georgia, Russia, Abkhazia, UN and EU will take part in the meeting.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1 near Saberio village an attack was undertaken on a car with Abkhazian customs officers, as a result of which one man was lost and two more were wounded. On June 3, in the Gal District of Abkhazia Dmitri Katsiya, head of the administration of Rep village, was assassinated. The Georgian party also reports that Georgians' houses were burnt down.

The previous meeting of the working group took place in Gal on May 25.
