Anatoli Pakhomov interferes into dispute between Sochi residents and builders of alternate road

On June 27, at 5 p.m., Sochi residents held an action of protest on the Tsvetnoi Boulevard against the third leg of the Kurortny Avenue alternate road which, in their opinion, had been designed with gross violations of SNiP by architects from St-Petersburg.

The meeting was attended by residents of the Sochi Central district and was later joined by the city mayor Аnatoli Pakhomov. He personally promised to the participants to take part in the rescue of the city Chaikovski Street from the Rosavtodor actions.

The residents welcomed the visit and the personal participation of the city leader in protecting the rights and interests of the municipality residents. Signatures to support the actions by Anatoli Pakhomov in protecting Chaikovski Street were collected on the spot. During the meeting, the residents collected about half-a-thousand signatures under their protest against Rosavtodor actions. They were all handed over to the city leader on the next day.

Rosavtodor plans were made public during the meeting, in particular, pulling down of the multistory building No 66 in Gagarin Street. This, as well as the information on their imminent eviction, proved to be unexpected for the residents.

The participants noted that the designers had failed to take into account that the engineering lines passing along Gagarin Street supply heat, electricity, water and gas to the Gagarinski residential district, the largest in the city.

According to the designers themselves, no risks connected with the above have been included into the project of the third leg of the alternate road which costs 50 billion rubles. Risks, however, can not be excluded. This means that, in case of a breakdown of houses, the school, kindergartens, shops, the secondary technical school, or a break in their supplies, the residents and the municipality will have to restore the utilities, destroyed by Rosavtodor, at their own cost.

Contrary to the arguments of guest designers, the local architects are convinced that the project of the alternate road is doomed to failure and that a four-lane thoroughfare on piles within a residential district is illegal, as well as dangerous for the life and health of residents, and is fraught with unpredictable emergencies.

Sochi mayor Pakhomov wants two weeks for settling this issue. In case no appropriate decision follows, the residents intend to block the road to Rosavtodor.
