Talk show on issue of access to information took place in Stepanakert
Stepanakert's Press Club jointly with a number of public organizations did a talk show on September 28 on the Artsakhskoye Public Television within the framework of the program of the international organization "Article 19" that is aimed at the development of freedom of speech in the Southern Caucasus. The theme of the talk show was "Citizens' Right of Getting Information".
Deputies of the National Assembly, journalists, and common citizens were guests of the program. There were no executive power officials at the show.
It became clear during the talk show that a legislative field in the republic provided citizens' access to information. However there are problems with the execution of the laws adopted. At the same time deputies advanced the opinion that the most part of the responsibility for the situation with the access to information lies with the mass media, which are not active enough.
The participants in the show draw special attention to giving concrete definition of the themes fallen into the state secret category. As it turned out, the law on the state secret has been passed in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic long ago, but the executive powers have not set the list of questions that are not to be promulgated so far.
