NATO exercises begin in Armenia
Today, the country started the NATO exercises "Armenia-2010" aimed at elimination of calamity consequences and involving 333 experts and observers from 28 countries and 5 international organizations, and 373 Armenian specialists.
The exercises comprise three phases: preparations and command-staff exercises (September 11-13), field exercises (September 14-15), discussions and summing up (September 16).
According to the scenario, on September 11 at 9:05 a.m., a 7.2-point earthquake strikes the Kotaik Region of Armenia, as a result of which 12,000 persons perish and 17,000 are injured. The earthquake has destroyed water supply and sewage systems, communication facilities, gas and power supplies, means of transport, and left thousands without roof over head.
Also, an accident has happened at the chemical plant in the city of Abovyan (Kotaik Region) causing emission of 4 tons of chlorine into the atmosphere.
According to the scenario, Armenia asks countries of the world to help by sending respective experts and equipment, the "Panаrmenian" reports.
