Azerbaijani Court of Appeal leaves oppositionists in custody

On June 2, the Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the complaints against extension of custody term lodged by Arif Gadjily, head of the executive office of the "Musavat" Party, Tural Abbasly, chairman of the "Musavat" youth organization, and Muhammad Medzhidli, member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 24 the Sabail District Court of Baku ruled to extend the custody of the three above oppositionists by two months more.

Let us remind you that all of them were detained during the unsanctioned protest action of the movement "Public Chamber" on April 2, when the police dispersed the rally under the pretext that it was not authorized by city authorities. The number of detainees reached 15 persons.

The detainees' complaints were considered separately; however, the decisions were the same - to reject release from custody, the "Turan" Agency quotes the lawyer Anar Gasymov.

Besides, on May 24, the Sabail Court rejected the petition lodged by Akhmed Mamedli, deputy chairman of the youth organization of the "Musavat" Party, and by non-partisan Elnur Israfilov to change the custody for home arrest. They were also detained for participation in the action of "Public Chamber" on April 2, the "SalamNews" reports.
