In May, 54 persons were lost in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During May this year, at least 97 persons were lost and wounded in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, including 54 casualties and 43 injured ones. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and other information from open sources.

The list of casualties includes 29 suspects of involvement in the armed underground, 19 law enforcers and 7 civilians. At least 27 power agents, 12 civilians and 4 suspected militants were wounded.

Most people were killed in Dagestan – 39 persons. Kabardino-Balkaria lost 7 persons; Chechnya – 5; and North Ossetia – 2. In Ingushetia, one local resident was killed. 21 persons were injured in Dagestan, 16 – in Chechnya, 3 – in North Ossetia, 2 – in Kabardino-Balkaria and one in Ingushetia.

The last month of spring saw six terror acts and explosions; at least 29 armed clashes; 11 attacks on civilians, 9 – on power agents and one attempt on an official. Law enforcers managed to prevent 11 explosions.

During the month, four explosions were triggered in Chechnya and two in Dagestan. As a result, two persons were killed in Makhachkala – a supposed suicide bomber and a policeman whom he wanted to blow up; and 12 persons were injured. The explosions wounded 10 power agents and two civilians.

Fourteen armed clashes were registered during the month in Dagestan, five – in Chechnya, four – in Kabardino-Balkaria, three – in Ingushetia and one – in North Ossetia. In total, 39 persons were lost in them: 27 suspected militants and 12 power agents. Other 24 persons were wounded in skirmishes in Northern Caucasus: 18 law enforcers and militaries, five civilians and four suspected militants.

The counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was once introduced in Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria each.

In May, seven attacks on law enforcers were committed in Dagestan and two in Kabardino-Balkaria. As a result, six power agents were lost. Eight times civilians were attacked in Dagestan, once in Ingushetia and once in North Ossetia. As a result, seven civilians were lost and five wounded.

In the period from May 1 to May 31, at least 25 people were detained on suspicion of involvement or complicity with the armed underground: 18 in North Ossetia, 13 in Chechnya, 6 in Dagestan, 5 in Kabardino-Balkaria and one in Ingushetia. Six more people came to surrender to law enforcement bodies: four in Ingushetia and two in Chechnya.

Besides, 5 persons were abducted: two in Dagestan, two in Ingushetia and one in Chechnya.
