Coordinator of the UN Secretary-General's Group of Friends, German Ambassador in Georgia Uwe Schramm visited Abkhazia

In Sukhum, Mr. Schramm was received by Vice-President Valery Arshba, Speaker of the Parliament Nugzar Ashuba, Prime Minister Raul Khajimba, and Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba. The German Ambassador took an interest in the economic situation in Abkhazia, the Abkhazian leadership's view on the continuation of negotiations between Abkhazia and Georgia. Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Georgia Heidi Tagliavini also attended the meetings.

During the meeting, Abkhazian Vice-President Valery Arshba told that the Abkhazian part did not intend to go beyond the limits of the three basic documents: the Constitution of Abkhazia, the Act on the Independent Statehood of Abkhazia, and the Declaration of April 4, 1994 on the Measures of Political Settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict.

A meeting on the security in the Gali district is reportedly scheduled for December 12.

A joint group of the UN Development Programme, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) started working in the Gali district on December 4 to study a situation there, Ms. Tagliavini told in the interview with the Caucasian Knot correspondent. The group is to work in the district till December 12.
