In Chechnya, Court fines four bookstores for selling books from "extremist" list

In Grozny, the Zavodskoi District Court fined owners of four stores for selling the literature put on the list of extremist materials.

In November 2012, in four bookstores of Grozny, prosecutors revealed the facts of possession of Islamic books that were pronounced to be extremist ones by the Court of the Orenburg city on March 21, 2012. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" in the Republic's Prosecutor's Office.

"On December 20, 2012, by the decision of the Magistrates Court of the Zavodskoi District of Grozny, four entities and individuals have been brought to administrative responsibility in the form of a fine for possession for the purpose of sale of extremist literature," the Prosecutor's Office has emphasized.

According to the story of one of the salespersons of the store, which was selling Islamic literature, he had no information about the fact that books he sold had been put on the prohibited list in Russia.

"We sell a lot of religious books published in both Arabic and Russian languages. For example, I would never think that such a book as the hadith collection 'Gardens of the Righteous' could be put on the list of extremist literature," the seller has said.
