Police Colonel asks Putin to deal with corruption in Dagestani MIA

In Dagestan, a Police Colonel Salikh Gadjiev, who was fired from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), is seeking reinstatement. His critical remarks against the leadership of the Dagestani MIA, which were regarded as a gross violation of discipline, caused the dismissal. Gadjiev has appealed to the Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to interfere.

Let us remind you that Salikh Gadjiev was one of the participants of the press conference with the topic: "Dagestan: the police in the conflict zone. View from inside", organized by the HRC "Memorial" in Moscow on March 1, 2013. During the event, he spoke about the need to return the fight with the underground into the legal framework, root out corruption in the police and to repair the image of the MIA.

On May 21, 2013, Gadjiev was brought to disciplinary responsibility in the form of dismissal from service.

His lawsuit against the Russian MIA and Dagestani MIA on recognition of his dismissal order illegal and reinstatement at service was considered by the Zamoskvoretsky Court in Moscow on November 28, 2013, and left without satisfaction.

According to his advocate Gabibullakh Isaev, the court failed to take into account that Salikh Gadjiev acted in the public interests.

In his appeal to the Russian President, Gadjiev states that in recent years the work of the police in the Republic of Dagestan is becoming increasingly criminalized. Finally, he asks Putin to "take measures to prevent execution of honest officers and to bring the corrupt officers, entrenched in the Dagestani MIA, to justice."
