Azerbaijani SC dismisses appeal complaint of blogger Rashad Agaaddin

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan has not satisfied the cassation complaint lodged by the blogger Rashad Agaaddin (Ramazanov), sentenced to 10 years in prison, against the decision of the preliminary session of the Baku Court of Appeal to reject a repeated judicial investigation. The Ramazanov's lawyer believes that the blogger was deprived of the chance to protect his rights. The defence intends to challenge the decisions of the Azerbaijani courts at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Let us remind you that Rashad Agaaddin (Ramazanov) was detained on May 9, 2013, in Baku. According to investigators, during the detention, nine grams of heroin were found in the back pocket of his trousers. On November 13, Agaaddin was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment.

Azer Nagiev, the blogger's lawyer, has stressed that the criminal case against Agaaddin had been fabricated for political reasons because of his publications on the Internet.

The human rights organization "Amnesty International" has recognized Agaaddin to be a "prisoner of conscience".
