Ukrainian authorities ban local airlines' flights to airports of Northern Caucasus

Ukrainian airlines are not allowed to perform both regular and charter flights to the Caucasian republics of the Russian Federation, says the order issued by the State Aviation Service of Ukraine. The ban covers the airports located in Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia and Karachay-Cherkessia.

The document based on the geographic principle, which lists the cities and countries banned for Ukrainian air carriers, was signed by Denis Antonyuk, the Head of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine.

Flights to the above North-Caucasian airports are permitted only upon coordination with the Department of Flight Safety.

The ban also covers the flights to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are not under any international treaties or UN contracts – in all other cases, Ukrainian airlines are prohibited to make flights to the above regions.
