AI recognizes Kerimli brothers arrested in Azerbaijan prisoners of conscience

The international human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) has announced prisoners of conscience Faradj Kerimli, a youth activist of the "Musavat" Party, and his brother Siradj Kerimli, arrested in Azerbaijan on charges of drug trafficking, and called for their immediate release.

The Kerimli brothers have complained that they were subjected to torture in custody to force them to recognize the crimes related to drugs, declared the AI's statement (the statement mentioned the brothers' surname as "Kerimov", – note of the "Caucasian Knot").

According to the AI's statement, an advocate of Faradj Kerimli managed to visit his client only on August 2 10 days after his detention. According to the organization, Faradj Kerimli has told his defender that he was beaten by policemen who wanted to force him to give a confession. "They threatened him that if he did not sign under 'confession', the police 'will create problems for his parents' by planting weapon to their house," declared the AI's statement published on the official website of the organization.

Besides, although Faradj Kerimli was arrested on charges of drug trafficking, the policemen questioned him about his political views and his administration of the pages on Facebook, "well-known for critic of the government of Azerbaijan", and they also demanded to provide them with the information about his colleagues from the opposition "Musavat" Party, the AI declares in its statement.

According to the AI's statement, Siradj Kerimli, a brother of Faradj Kerimli, was also subjected to torture by the policemen.
