Zalimkhan Tkhamokov, detained resident of Nalchik, placed under home arrest
In Nalchik, the Court has pronounced the decision on the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of one-month home arrest for Zalimkhan Tkhamokov, a KBR resident. According to his wife, on September 9, he was detained on charges of illegal possession of weapons. The woman believes that the case against her husband is fabricated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, Eliza, the wife of Zalimkhan Tkhamokov, appealed to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" with a complaint on the kidnapping of her husband Zalimkhan Tkhamokov, a resident of Nalchik. According to the woman, her husband was kidnapped by unidentified men in masks from the taxi company, where he worked as a taxi driver. In the evening of September 9, Zalimkhan Tkhamokov called his family members and told them that he was charged with illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
"After October 13, 2005, our house was searched several times, and my husband was brought to police several times. After that, we left for Saint Petersburg, and we stayed there for several years. In 2011, Zalimkhan's mother fell ill, and we had to go back to Nalchik," Eliza Thamokova has said.
"In 2011, the police again remembered about my husband. This is the second detention," the wife of the detained man has stated. The woman believes that a grenade was planted her husband. She has added that Zalimkhan Tkhamokov is seriously ill: he has been diagnosed with hepatitis.
The wife of Zalimkhan Tkhamokov associates the law enforcement bodies' interest in detention of her husband by the fact that he is Muslim.
According to Elena Bairamkulova, an advocate of Zalimkhan Tkhamokov, her client has made a confession, in which he "incriminated himself."
