Woman from Chechnya sentenced to over 9 years in prison for beating her stepdaughter

Today, in Chechnya, the Oktiabrsky District Court of Grozny has found Marina Baisultanova, a local resident, guilty of brutal beating her four-year-old stepdaughter and sentenced her to 9 years and 2 months of imprisonment in a general-security colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 19, the Grozny hospital admitted a four-year-old girl with closed craniocerebral trauma, fracture of forearm, thermal injury to the face and numerous bruises on her body. According to investigators, the girl was beaten by 23-year-old stepmother.

The Court has established that on July 19 the child was severely beaten with a stick for a small children's prank while in the bathroom. The defendant twice struck the girl's head against the wall, after which the child lost consciousness. According to the doctors, the girl had suffered a grave bodily harm.

Furthermore, it became known at the trial that in the same evening Baisultanova beat up the victim's seven-year-old sister.

Today, in the course of the debate session, the woman claimed that she had been in the heat of passion; however, throughout the whole process, she refused to plead guilty.

Her defence is going to appeal against the verdict, the Chechen State Broadcasting Company "Grozny" reports.

Let us remind you that on August 2 it became known that Baisultanova's stepdaughter had recovered from coma. The girl will have to learn walking anew; and doctors predict that she will need a long-term rehabilitation. She is still in the rehabilitation centre.
