ICRF received appeal of investigating Akhmednabiyev's murder from 31 human rights organizations from 17 countries

Human rights organizations from 17 countries of the world demand to investigate the murder of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev at the federal level, by delivering the case to the Chief Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF). A letter of such demand was signed by 31 organizations, including such world-famous Amnesty International, Article 19, Reporters Without Borders, Committee to Protect Journalists, Index on Censorship, PEN International and World Press Freedom Committee. The letter was received by the ICRF.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the above international human rights organizations addressed Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the ICRF, with their appeal concerning Akhmednabiyev's case to the Chief Department of the ICRF on November 2.

The authors of the appeal to Mr Bastrykin have stressed that in September 2014, at a session of the UN Council on Human Rights, Russia voted in favour of the resolution on journalists' safety. Thus, the country committed itself to ensure impartial, thorough and effective investigations, said the letter.

Alexei Simonov, one of the signatories of the appeal and President of the Glasnost Defence Foundation, said that the letter was signed by "solid and respected organizations," while the letter was initiated, as far as he knows, by the reputable organization "Reporters Without Borders".

The abundance of signatures will attract the attention of the authorities to this case, said Lyudmila Alekseeva, the chair of the Moscow Helsinki Group.
