In Moscow, participants of Journalists' Memorial Day paid tribute to Akhmednabiyev and Kuashev
Moscow has hosted the Memorial Day of Journalists who perished while performing their professional duties; and its participants commemorated their colleagues assassinated in Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria.
On December 15, at the Central House of Journalists there were no media people from Dagestan, Chechnya and Ingushetia. Journalists from these republics will hold the Memorial Day of their fallen colleagues in their own regions, said Nadezhda Azhgikhina, the Secretary of the Union of Journalists.
She also mentioned the joint award founded by the Union of Journalists of Russia and the "Caucasian Knot" in memory of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev. It is planned to announce the laureates of the annual award to journalists writing about the Caucasus in February 2015.
Azhgikhina has added that in Dagestan they managed to achieve the resumption of the investigation into the murder of Akhmednabiyev. At the request of journalists, the State Duma MP Boris Reznik sent a deputy's request to the General Prosecutor's Office; and the investigation into Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev's murder was resumed, she said.
The lawyer Karina Moskalenko has noted that the state is inefficient in investigating killings of journalists.
According to the database "Journalists Lost in Russia", a joint project of the International Federation of Journalists and Centre for Extreme Journalism, since April 14, 1993, to December 16, 2013, a total of 315 journalists perished in Russia.
