Five people detained in Moscow at march in memory of Markelov and Baburova

In Moscow, on the day of the murder of the lawyer Stanislav Markelov and the journalist of "Novaya Gazeta" Anastasia Baburova, in the course of the commemoration action, which was sanctioned by the Mayoralty, five persons were detained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Stanislav Markelov was killed on January 19, 2009, when he returned from the press conference held in the "Independent Press Centre" at Prechistenka Street, dedicated to early relief of Yuri Budanov. Anastasia Baburova, a student of the Department of Journalism of the Moscow State University and a journalist of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", who accompanied Stanislav Markelov on that tragic day, was wounded and later died in hospital. Investigators believe that she was an occasional victim.

This afternoon, flowers were laid in Moscow at the murder place of Markelov and Baburova; and in the evening, a march in their memory, which was sanctioned by the authorities, began in the Russian capital.

The participants of the action were carrying numerous posters, banners and photographs of Markelov and Baburova. During the march, they chanted: "Antifascism is ours!", "No to fascism, homophobia and sexism!" "World is colourful, not brown!", "I'm Stas Markelov!", "I'm Nastya Baburova!" and others.

The procession took place within the "ring" of OMON agents (riot policemen). Along the perimeter of Tver, Nikitsky and Gogol Boulevards, prison trucks and fencing were set up, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

While marching along Gogol Boulevard, several flash-bangs were blown up. An unidentified man blew them up at the roadside, and then disappeared into a gateway.

Five persons were detained during the march, including Dmitry Enteo, the founder of the movement "God's Will", for trying to organize riots during the action.
