In Makhachkala, journalists granted awards in memory of Khadjimurad Kamalov
Today, Makhachkala has hosted the ceremony of awarding prizes in memory of Dagestani journalist Khadjimurad Kamalov. The first place in the nomination "Journalist of the Year" went to Pavel Kanygin, a journalist of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta".
The winners are determined by the team of the Dagestani weekly newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft). The award "For significant contribution to the consolidation of civil society" was founded by the non-commercial association "Khadjimurad Kamalov Foundation".
On December 15, 2011, Khadjimurad Kamalov, the General Director of the company "Freedom of Speech", the founder of the newspaper "Chernovik", was shot dead near the office of the "Chernovik" in Makhachkala. On December 15, 2012, Khadjimurad Kamalov was posthumously awarded the Sakharov Prize "For Life Devoted to Journalism."
The main awards in the nomination "Journalist of the Year" went to Nikolai Protsenko (the 3rd place, the magazine "Expert SOUTH"), Andrei Melamedov (the 2nd place, the weekly newspaper "Novoe Delo"), and Pavel Kanygin (the 1st place, "Novaya Gazeta"), the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. Pavel Kanygin highlights the events in the south-east of Ukraine.
In the nomination "Future of Journalism", the honorary diploma was awarded to Bela Boyarova, a correspondent of the newspaper "Makhachkala Izvestia".
In the nomination "Radio of the Year", the award went to Zaur Gadjiev, the editor-in-chief of the radio station "Echo of Moscow (Makhachkala)".
Winners of the Khadjimurad Kamalov Prize were named for the first time since 2013. On January 25, 2013, the first award ceremony was held.
