Participants of action in memory of Dubrovka terror act victims release 130 white air balloons into sky

The public organization "Nord-Ost", promoting the protection of victims to the terror acts, held the event to pay tribute to the memory of the victims to the siege of Moscow Dubrovka Theatre in 2002.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 23, 2002, during the musical "Nord-Ost", militants took hostage 916 people and demanded the immediate cessation of hostilities in Chechnya. Three days later, on October 26, 2002, law enforcers conducted a special operation to rescue the hostages. According to the official information, in the course of the special operation, 40 militants were killed. Besides, 130 civilians were killed, and more than 700 others were injured.

People, who have come today to the commemoration event, have paid tribute to the victims and held a minute's silence. They also released into the sky 130 white air balloons symbolizing the number of the victims to the terror act. The participants of the action brought flowers and laid them at the memorial, the "RIAMO" reports.

It should be noted that on December 17, 2014, it became known that investigators resumed the criminal investigation into the case of the terror act during the musical "Nord-Ost" in connection with the detention of Khasan Zakaev, a 41-year-old native of Chechnya. Khasan Zakaev was on the international wanted list, and he was arrested while trying to enter Crimea from Ukraine with a fake passport.
