Five residents of Karachay-Cherkessia notify authorities of their intention to declare hunger strike
Five residents of Cherkessk have announced their intention to go on a hunger strike in protest against the violation of their rights by the authorities. Leyla Arkelova, Alla Rusakova, Svetlana Kozyreva, and Elena and Boris Polovinin have announced their participation in the protest action.
On October 29, five residents of Karachay-Cherkessia sent a notification to Rashid Temrezov, the leader of Karachay-Cherkessia, Kazimir Botashev, Minister of Internal Affairs, Alexander Tereschenko, Prosecutor of Karachay-Cherkessia, Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Presidential Council for Human Rights, and Sergey Melikov, Presidential Envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). In their notification, they have declared their intention to start an indefinite hunger strike at the square in front of the Government House of Karachay-Cherkessia starting from 8:00 a.m. of November 3, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
All participants of the upcoming protest action demand "to stop the lawlessness and take steps for the restoration of their constitutional rights and freedoms." The protestors have stated that in case if their demands are not satisfied, they will continue their hunger strike until their deaths.
