In Southern Russia, Christmas events to be held under enhanced security

In the southern regions of Russia, Orthodox believers are preparing to celebrate Christmas. The police and rescue teams are taking control to protect the venues of mass festivities.

On the eve of the Orthodox Christmas, staff members of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Ministry for Emergences (MfE) took control over the Temple of Archangel Michael in Grozny.

In the Stavropol Territory, fire-fighting and rescue teams held preparations for the Christmas events.

211 venues in the Stavropol Territory to host holiday events on the Christmas Eve were registered and taken under protection.

In Vladikavkaz, it is planned to partially block the central streets of the city in connection with the Christmas holiday events.

On the eve of Christmas, the police have appealed to residents of the republic with the request for vigilance and caution.

In the Rostov Region, the police have also announced the plans to ensure public order during the celebration of the Christmas holiday. To ensure the order, at night of January 7, about 5000 policemen will arrive to protect 329 churches and cathedrals of the Rostov Region which will hold the events to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
