Nakhichevan Court sentences Zeinal Bagirzade to eight years of imprisonment
In the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Zeinal Bagirzade, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment. His relatives and party colleagues claim political motives for prosecution of the activist.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zeinal Bagirzade, a PFPA activist was detained in November 2015. According to investigators, he had rendered resistance to public agents. Following the results of the investigation, he was charged under Article 315.2 (use of violence against a public agent dangerous to his life or health).
Today, the Babek District Court of Nakhichevan has pronounced the verdict to Zeinal Bagirzade. The Court has sentenced him to eight years of imprisonment. This was reported by activist's brother Yashar Bagirsoi, the leader of the PFPA's office in the NAR.
"He was sentenced to four years of imprisonment under Article 315.2. And four other years of imprisonment were added from the remaining part of the unserved conditional sentence pronounced against Zeinal in 2012. Then, Zeinal was accused of forging a certificate of a veteran of Chernobyl NPP (nuclear power plant), although he was actually involved in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident. The charge was politically motivated. Zeinal is being prosecuted for his opposing views, his intransigence and his intolerance to injustice and tyranny. He was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment for nothing," Yashar Bagirsoi told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
