Azerbaijani SC releases Intigam Aliev

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan has made a decision to replace the Intigam Aliev's prison sentence for the conditioned sentence and to release the human rights defender.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, 2014, the court sentenced Intigam Aliev, the leader of the organization "Legal Education Society", to 7.5 years of imprisonment on charges of embezzlement on a large scale and tax evasion. On February 24, 2016, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan upheld the verdict. On March 24, the advocate reported that the General Prosecutor of Azerbaijan had treated the court's decision as "too severe" and filed to the Azerbaijani SC an appeal against the verdict.
