Rostov-on-Don: over 800 signatures collected under petition for direct election of Mayor
Residents of Rostov-on-Don have demanded to abolish the existing order of election of the City Mayor and to terminate the contract with Sergey Gorban, the current head of the local administration.
The petition on behalf of the citizens was published by user Dmitry Pozharsky and addressed to the Chairman of the City Duma in Rostov-on-Don, the deputies of the City Duma, and the Russian presidential administration.
"The indigenous people of Rostov-on-Don associated with him (Sergey Gorban, note of the 'Caucasian Knot') their hopes for the changes in the city for the better. However, all they got was a deterioration of the situation in the city," states the text of the petition posted on the website "Change.org".
"We believe it is appropriate to consider the termination of the contract with the City Mayor and to return to the residents of Rostov-on-Don the right to choose the Mayor through direct elections," states the text of the petition.
As at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time of May 11, the petition was signed by 835 people.
