Zhirair Sefilyan arrested in Armenia
Zhirair Sefilyan, the head of the joint staff of the opposition and the leader of the movement "100 years without regime", was arrested on suspicion of illegal transportation and storage of weapons.
On May 20, policemen found two Kalashnikov submachine guns with 120 rounds of ammunition in a car that got into road accident in Yerevan, the press service of the Investigating Committee (IC) of Armenia told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to the IC’s spokesman, as a result of operative-search activities, it became clear that Zhirair Sefilyan had plotted, with a group of people, an armed seizure of buildings and means of communication and telecom, including the Yerevan TV tower.
"To implement the plot, Sefilyan organized an illegal purchase, transportation and storage of weapons by a group of persons. A criminal case was opened under Part 2, Article 235, of the Criminal Code of Armenia: "illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices, committed by a group of persons by previous concert". The accusation is brought against eight suspects, six of whom were arrested, and one – announced wanted," said the press-service.
The maximum penalty under this article is six years of imprisonment.
