Armenian experts positively assess results of NATO summit in Warsaw
Political analyst Ruben Megrabyan believes that cooperation with NATO is in the Armenia's interests. However, because of the tension of the Armenian-Turkish relations, Armenia is not yet able to become a member of NATO, states MP Tevan Pogosyan. Rapprochement between NATO and Georgia is to create an alternative system of security in the region. This opinion was expressed by political observer Akop Badalyan.
On July 8-9, Warsaw hosted the NATO summit. The Alliance urged to adhere to the format of the OSCE Minsk Group on the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Ruben Megrabyan, an expert of the Armenian Centre for Political and International Studies.
Ruben Megrabyan believes that the cooperation with NATO will enable Armenia not to be dependent only on the position of Russia in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
According to Akop Badalyan, it is natural that the final communiqué did not reflect the NATO's position on Nagorno-Karabakh. The political observer has noted that NATO has always stated its support of the OSCE Minsk Group with the emphasis that it is not engaged in the settlement of the conflict.
Akop Badalyan believes that the April war in Nagorno-Karabakh has proved that the Russian-Turkish system is unable to ensure peace in Southern Caucasus.
Earlier, it has been reported that the NATO summit confirmed the course on adoption of Georgia to NATO.
