KBR: failed militant of IS calls on young people not to leave for Syria

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has made public the appeal of Aslan Konov, accused of trying to join Syrian militants. The appeal is addressed to the Commission for adaptation of militants, and the author asks to bring his appeal to young people.

In July 2015, Aslan Konov, a resident of the village of Planovskoe, made a failed attempt to get into Syria through Turkey. When he returned home in August 2015, he voluntarily surrendered to the district department of the FSB.

On August 4, a staff member of the KBR's HRC sent the Aslan Konov's appeal addressed to the Commission for adaptation of militants to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and other media.

In his appeal, Aslan Konov states that he started to plan leaving for Syria after he had read on the Internet the reports on alleged oppression of Circassians Muslims in the country.

According to Aslan Konov, while in Turkey, he met natives from Northern Caucasus who were to help him to go to Syria, and after talking to them, he changed his intention about leaving for Syria.

"I've seen that those people are led by their passions and have nothing in common with true Islam," points out Aslan Konov.

When explaining the reason for the change of his plans, the young man mentioned "provocative behaviour of those hypocrites, hiding behind faith." "They took away my Russian passport and kept me locked up under armed guard. I was able to go home due to a lucky chance," notes the young man.

"All that is written about the events in Syria on the Internet is a lie, and that has nothing in common with the real situation," says Aslan Konov, referring to the information disseminated by Syrian rebels.
