Successors of Avetisyan family members boycott trial
In the case against Valery Permyakov, representatives of successors of the Avetisyan family members left the courtroom, since the judge refused to interrupt the trial for the period of consideration of a civil action against Russia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27, an advocate of the Avetisyan family members' successors applied for filing a claim in the amount of 450,000 euros against Russia, which, according to the plaintiffs, was responsible for the mistakes made by the commanders of the military base, which had resulted in the tragedy. On June 30, the court dismissed the claim. The defence intends to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
Today, the representatives of the successors of the Avetisyan family members have presented to the court a motion to postpone the court hearing for a period of two-three weeks. Advocate Aramazd Kiviryan has explained that the defence wants to wait for the decision the court of appeal.
Judge Arutyun Movsisyan has stated that there were no reasons for the postponement of the court hearing.
Advocate Lusine Saakyan claimed that the consideration of the claim against Russia will allow avoiding in future the repetition of such tragedies. According to the advocate, all the persons responsible for the personnel of the military base in Gyumri and recruitment of soldiers to serve in Armenia should be held liable. Moreover, it is also necessary to bring Russia to financial liability.
According to advocate Lusine Saakyan, the representatives of the successors of the Avetisyan family members intend to boycott all the future court hearings.
