Leyla Chemurzieva’s mother pickets off Putin’s administration
Vladimir Putin is to pay attention to the case of Leyla Chemurzieva, a resident of Ingushetia, convicted on charges of having links with militants and who fell victim to "arbitrariness over the law," said her mother in her address to the president. After submitting her petition, she held a solo picket in support of her daughter.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Leyla Chemurzieva was injured on October 31, 2015, during a special operation in the marketplace in Nazran. After that, she was accused of having links with Ilyas Vedzizhev and a native of Chechnya Beslan Makhauri; both were killed in that operation. On August 11, 2016, the Nazran District Court sentenced Leyla Chemurzieva to eight years in prison. Her family asserts that she made confessions under torture.
Today, Lyudmila Ortskhanova, Leyla’s mother, has submitted a petition to Vladimir Putin via his administration; and then held a solo picket in the square in front of the administration.
Ortskhanova came to the picket with her grandchildren, two Leyla’s kids. They held posters reading: "Bring our mother back home!", "Stop tyranny of Leyla Chemurzieva!", "Ingushetia has 1937 back!" and "No to torture!"
In her petition to Putin, Ortskhanova treats the case against her daughter as fabricated.
