Relatives of Gasanguseinov brothers seek their posthumous rehabilitation

Relatives of the Gasanguseinov brothers, killed on August 23 in the Shamil District of Dagestan, filed a complaint to the investigating authorities of Dagestan and human rights defenders with a request to carry out an investigation into the circumstances of their deaths. This was told on September 1 to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the killed brothers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to law enforcers, on August 23, during a shootout in one of mountain gorges of the Shamil District, two militants, later identified as Gasangusein and Nabi Gasanguseinov, residents of the village of Goor-Khindakh, were killed. Fellow villagers of the brothers have stated that they were ordinary shepherds and were killed by mistake. Villagers sent appeals to the authorities demanding to punish the power agents involved.

"I want to rehabilitate the name of my sons, even after their deaths," Murtazali Gasanguseinov has said.

According to him, since the deaths of his sons, their relatives were not visited by law enforcers, staff members of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the Prosecutor's Office.

Murtazali Gasanguseinov has noted that on August 30, he appealed to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in Dagestan. In his appeal, he described the course of the events of August 23 and 24 and asked to assist in the identification of the people involved in the murder of his sons.

"Please help us to identify those who shot and killed my sons and to bring them to responsibility. Please protect the good names of my children. They were neither militants nor Wahhabis," stated the father of the killed Gasanguseinov brothers.
