On August 29-September 4, five persons suffered in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from August 29 to September 4, 2016, five persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: three were killed and two wounded. These are the results of calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes one law enforcer and two alleged member of the armed underground of Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On September 2, in the city of Izberbash, unidentified persons opened fire on policemen from a Hyundai car. No one was injured.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On September 4, the Magaramkent District located in Southern Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. In the course of shootout with a group of militants, three law enforcers were wounded. Later, near the settlement of Samur in the outskirt of the Samur Forest, an armed clash occurred. Unidentified persons opened automatic fire on employees involved in the CTO regime. Three employees were wounded; one of them later died. According to power agents, two militants were killed. Later, law enforcers reported a blocking a group of militants in a Samur Forest.

Explosions and terror acts

On August 30, law enforcers received a report about a suspicious car without a driver in the village of Ali-Yurt, Nazran District. Power agents arrived and cordoned off the area and evacuated residents from nearby houses. A bomb was found in the car; power agents destroyed the bomb. According to law enforcers, attackers were preparing an attempt on Isa Tsechoev, the Imam of the Ali-Yurt mosque.

On August 31, power agents neutralized an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered in the city of Dagestanskie Ogni, in the house of Gasan Abdullaev, the leader of the "Southern" grouping of militants, who was killed this June.

    A court dismissed all the arguments of the defence and upheld the decision to fine Marina Melikhova, an activist from Kuban, whose verse the law enforcement bodies recognized as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. Marina Melikhova, who does not have the money to pay the fine, intends to file an appeal against the court’s decision.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report. Among the victims have been Abubakar Mestoev and Umar Chichaev, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Northern Caucasus, reports Shamil Khadulaev, the chair of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan.

  • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
