Abdulatipov offers to award title of Hero of Russia to slain policeman

Dagestani authorities will petition about awarding the title of Hero of Russia to policeman Magomed Nurbagandov, who was killed by militants after he refused under the threat of execution to urge his colleagues to leave law enforcement bodies, Ramazan Abdulatipov, the head of the republic, said today.

At night of July 10, two young men were shelled and killed in a forest near the village of Sergokala. One of the killed men was the above policeman Magomed Nurbagandov. On September 7, during a special operation carried out in the town of Izberbash, three suspected militants were killed. In the mobile phone of one of the killed suspects, law enforcers discovered a video record showing how an armed man tried to force the policeman to urge his friends and acquaintances to leave their service at the law enforcement bodies. In response, the policeman addressed his friends and said: "Keep working, brothers!" After this phrase, he was shot dead. He will be posthumously nominated for a state award, Irina Volk, the spokesperson of the Russia's MIA, announced on September 11.

"We will apply to the President of the Russian Federation on awarding Nurbagandov the title of Hero of Russia. His deed – is an act of a true man, a Dagestani, who died defending the honour of his motherland and his uniform; he has become forever an example of courage and patriotism," Ramazan Abdulatipov wrote in his statement posted on his Instagram page.

He also thanked, on behalf of all Dagestanis, the parents, teachers and colleagues of Magomed Nurbagandov for upbringing the patriot, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Magomed Nurbagandov is a native of the Dagestani village of Sergokala. He has two children left, the "Life" quoted Patimat Gamzatova, a Nurbagandov's former teacher.
