Experts of "Nairit" Factory submit plans for its resumption to Minister of Energy
On September 30, workers of the "Nairit" Factory met Ashot Manukyan, Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of Armenia, to discuss the issues related to the potential of the plant and resumption of rubber production in Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Nairit" plant, which produced chloroprene rubber, stays idle since April 2010. On August 13, the workers of the plant learned that the Slovak holding "EU-Asia Business Finance Centre" proposed the Armenian authorities to invest in the renewal of rubber production by the "Nairit" plant. The workers asked the Armenian President to accept the potential investor's offer. On August 25, the workers of the "Nairit" plant accused the Armenian authorities of looking for a reason to refuse the potential investor.
"Ashot Manukyan was also reported about the proposal voiced by the European holding company 'EU-Asia Business Finance Centre' to invest in the 'Nairit' plant," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Karine Shakhverdyan, a former worker of the "Nairit" Factory, who took part in the meeting.
The workers of the "Nairit" Factory believe that the final decision on resumption of the operation of the plant will be made by Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan; however, the opinion of the Minister of Energy will also be taken into account, Karine Shakhverdyan says.
"The Minister of Energy, who controlled the 'Nairit' plant for many years, should voice his position concerning the prospects of rubber production at the meeting with the delegation of the European holding company which will come to Armenia on October 6. This is why the workers of the plant treat the meeting with Ashot Manukyan as so important," explained the woman.
