MIA states prevention of terror acts in Chechnya

The eight militants killed today in Chechnya were members of one grouping and had planned sabotage and terror acts, said a source from the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that tonight in a shootout on a highway eight suspected militants were killed, and four policemen were wounded. One of the casualties was pre-identified as Ali Demilkhanov, 33, a militant leader, said a source from the Chechen police.

"We received operative data on this bandit grouping and its intention to commit subversive and terror acts in the territory of the republic. We received data, in particular from our colleagues in Dagestan. The whole area, where the criminals could move, was taken under control; mobile units were deployed, including on the country road leading to the village of Engel-Yurt, on which, most likely, they could appear," said a MIA source, adding that power agents' operation was successful.
