MIA: militants killed in Chechnya arrived from Dagestan

The eight people, killed in Chechnya on October 9, were on the way to the Republic of Dagestan; their route was along country roads, to bypass stationary police posts, a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) told the "Caucasian Knot" today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 9, eight suspected militants were killed, and four policemen were wounded in a shootout on a highway in the Gudermes District of Chechnya. One of the casualties was pre-identified as Ali Demilkhanov, 33, a militant leader, said a source from the Chechen police.

"Law enforcement bodies of the republic possessed operative information about the plans of penetration of the bandit gang into the territory of the republic aiming to commit sabotage and terror acts; therefore, mobile posts were deployed in terrorists' possible routes; and they came across one of such posts," a local law enforcement source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, in response to the police's demand, they opened fire from their pistols and threw several grenades, after which fire to kill was opened at them. The source has added that the wounded law enforcers will be presented to state awards.
