Volgograd residents state threat to children's health from outsourced catering in kindergartens

The switch to catering by outsourcing in kindergartens will degrade food quality, since the private provider will fail to deliver food on time to all institutions, said protesters in Volgograd. According to their version, this is a threat to children's health. In his turn, the spokesman from the Mayoralty has assured that the control over food quality will not decrease.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today 25 residents of Volgograd have held a picket against the authorities' decision to outsource (attract a professional company from outside for the provision of services, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") the catering in city kindergartens of Volgograd. The protesters exposed banners demanding resignation of local authorities.

Galina Marchukova, one of the protesters, whose grandson goes to kindergarten, said that the city bureaucrats, who made the decision, had underestimated the complexity of the logistics to be faced by the single provider of catering.

"They'll have to carry food to kindergartens across the whole city; and there's no other such long-stretched city like Volgograd in the country," she said.

The authorities are ignoring protests against the outsourcing and fail to respond to requests of concerned families, said Olga Cheburakova, the organizer of the action.
