Akkaev's doping test at Olympics-2008 was positive

The weightlifter Khadjimurat Akkaev from the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) is temporally suspended from competitions after a re-analysis of his doping sample taken at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing proved to be positive. This was reported by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Akkaev won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, but on November 17, 2016, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stated the athlete was deprived of his medal for using doping. His coach said that Akkaev would not return his medal to the IOC, because he had never used doping. Akkaev did not perform at the 2012 Olympics in London because of his back injury.

Akkaev won silver at Olympics-2004, and bronze at Olympics-2008. Now, he heads the Weightlifting Federation of the Rostov Region.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the checks of doping assays of Russian athletes began after the publication on July 18, 2016, of a report of the commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) about the programme of secret use of doping in the Russian Federation. As a result, many athletes were no admitted to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro that took place in August 2016.
