Azerbaijani woman states torture in police

A female resident of the Lankaran District of Azerbaijan was hospitalised after, according to her, she was tortured by power agents. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has refuted her statement and reported that the woman confessed of committing a crime.

A 46-year-old woman from the village of Shyuryuk was detained on December 28, 2016, on suspicion of a robbery and murder, committed on May 15, 2013.

According to investigators, Guseinova and her neighbours strangled a woman in a hostel. Later, a sum of 9100 manats (345,000 roubles by the 2013 exchange rate) and gold articles were stolen from the victim's room, the "Vesti.az" quotes the MIA's message.

Prior to the murder, Guseinova told her neighbour that she wanted to buy a land plot and build a house, the "Sputnik.az" reports.

The woman herself claims that she became a suspect because of the false denunciation of her neighbours, who had owed money to her. According to Guseinova, policemen tortured her with electric current department, beat up with truncheons and kicked her, demanding to sign some document.

According to her story, then she was taken to the prosecutor's office, where she began talking about the torture; therefore law enforcers took her back to the police station, where they continued abusing her, the "Haqqin.az" writes. She tried to escape through the window, but finally found herself at hospital.
