Staff of scientific centre accuses Makhachkala authorities of arbitrariness

Officials from the Makhachkala administration, acting under the Mayor’ order, have dismantled the decorative fence of the Dagestani Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), although the managers of the centre received no notifications. In response, the Mayoralty said that the fence had been installed illegally; and townspeople will feel much better without it.

The information about the destruction of the fence came today to the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot". According to the message, the incident occurred in the afternoon on February 9. A large group of strangers arrived in the territory of the Scientific Centre, who "presented themselves as employees of the administration of Makhachkala." With the help of a bulldozer, they destroyed the metal fence, saying that they act under the order of the Mayor Musa Musaev.

The website of the Centre also states that the employees behaved aggressively towards the scientific collaborators.

The Centre has treated the actions of the Mayoralty as vandalism and arbitrariness, and called on the republic’s leadership, Deputies of the City Assembly and the public "to give a moral and ethical assessment of the actions of the city authorities and officials, and to stop their lawlessness."

On February 9, the press office of the Mayoralty of Makhachkala confirmed that the Construction Inspectorate, within the project "Open City", is dismantling "the illegally installed fences to open the access to urban spaces and public places."
